Make a Simple Weather Barometer

Make a Simple Weather Barometer Individuals anticipated the climate back in ye great olde days before Doppler radar and GOES satellites utilizing basic instruments. One of the most helpful instruments is an indicator, which estimates gaseous tension or barometric weight. You can make your own indicator utilizing ordinary materials and afterward attempt to gauge the climate yourself.â Indicator Materials glass, container, or canplastic wrapa strawrubber bandindex card or lined note pad papertapescissors Develop the Barometer Spread the highest point of your holder with cling wrap. You need to make a hermetically sealed seal and a smooth surface.Secure the cling wrap with an elastic band. The most significant piece of making the indicator is getting a decent seal around the edge of the container.Lay the straw over the highest point of the wrapped compartment so that around 66% of the straw is over the opening.Secure the straw with a bit of tape.Either tape a file card to the rear of the holder or, in all likelihood set up your gauge with a sheet of scratch pad paper behind it.Record the area of the straw on your card or paper.Over time the straw will go here and there in light of changes in pneumatic force. Watch the development of the straw and record the new readings. How the Barometer Works High barometrical weight pushes on the saran wrap, making it collapse. The plastic and the taped area of straw sink, making the finish of the straw tilt up. At the point when barometrical weight is low, the weight of the air inside the can is higher. The saran wrap swells out, raising the taped finish of the straw. The edge of the straw falls until it stops against the edge of the compartment. Temperature additionally influences barometrical weight so your indicator needs a steady temperature so as to be precise. Get it far from a window or different spots that experience temperature changes. Foreseeing the Weather Since you have an indicator you can utilize it to help anticipate the climate. Climate designs are related with locales of high and low air pressure. Rising weight is related with dry, cool, and quiet climate. Dropping weight gauges downpour, wind, and tempests. Rapidly rising weight that begins from normal or high weight during reasonable climate shows a low-pressure cell is drawing nearer. You can anticipate that the weight should begin to fall as poor climate approaches.Quickly rising weight (over a couple of hours or a few days) after a time of low weight implies you can expect a brief time of good weather.Slowly rising barometric weight (longer than a week or somewhere in the vicinity) demonstrates great climate that will stay a while.Slowly falling weight shows the nearness of a close by low-pressure framework. Changes in your climate are improbable at this time.If the compel keeps on dropping gradually you can anticipate a significant stretch of terrible (instead of bright and clear) weather.A abrupt drop in pressure (over a couple of hours) demonstrates a moving toward storm (as a rule showing up inside 5-6 hours). The tempest presumably includes wind and precipitation, yet wont keep going long.

Solution Providers has organized similar “Case Study” events at other prestigious academic institutions locally and internationally to seek talent and last Monday at SIPA. After some refreshments and a short presentation about the team, the culture and the firm’s mission (Passion, Process, Progress), there were 4 teams with 5 students each gaining insights in the life of a management consultant by practicing their casing skills. Each team approached the case differently to manage the case that was number heavy and represented a typical challenging situation of gaining new business, by not neglecting the existing clients and by having a cost-efficient operation to support the firm’s growth. Some groups divided the tasks immediately to quickly focus on specific areas and others discussed the issues as a whole team to get a good handle on the challenge the case study offered and potential solutions that may be recommended. Felix Gniza (Senior Consultant) mentioned that this case was from a real client; however slightly modified to make it manageable to be solved within 45 minutes and to follow compliance standards to assure confidentiality of the actual client’s identity. After an intense team work session and a 15 minutes break that was used to finalize the team’s presentations, each group made their case by identifying the issues that were discovered during the analysis of the case and the various recommendations that the students recommended to senior management, represented by the 4 Solution Providers professionals present. Ilya Usorov (Consultant) shared that this “case study” represented the actual process he and his fellow colleagues face to provide the bes t solution possible under a tight time schedule and with the information available. The students experienced this challenge firsthand through the follow up questions posed by the consultants and other students to the presenting team; however the students appreciated the valuable learning experience and the feedback on what to emphasize on during the next time a case or actual client study is worked on. The official part of the 3 hour workshop was concluded by a general feedback from Ahrum Pak (Associate Consultant) and the aforementioned Solution Providers representatives. A casual commingling between the students and the Consultants followed, where business cards were swapped and future career plans were enhanced. Please feel free to reach out to SIPA’s career office (OCS) or to me if you want to learn more about this case. My Experience At High School Essay - 1019 Words

High School: A time in our lives that sets the mold for who we are going to be in this world. It does this by teaching us great lessons about life, ourselves, and other people through various experiences. One of these experiences I chose to take part in was football. It was this decision that led me to this fateful day. A day in which my left leg was shattered and my perspectives on life were drastically changed. The journey I had embark on to deal with all of the after effects of this event taught me life lessons I’ll never forget. It was October 24th, 2014. This date fell on a Friday and during football season that meant it was game day for most high school teams. Not just any game though, it was our district championship. I remember it all like it was yesterday. The smell of the fresh cut grass was so satisfying and the grass itself was even more delightful to see on the field. The atmosphere was phenomenal. Both cheer squads were screaming their chants. Fans and parents a like were yelling and clapping. My shoulder pads were fastened tight around my ribs and shoulders. The adrenaline was flowing through my veins. My mind was prepared for the game but not what was about to befall me. This is where the story starts to spiral downwards. Modern Family Do Not Push And Marco Polo - 1455 Words

Introduction Modern Family TV shows have been a very popular comedy series, which introduced a show that sounds like an attempt to portray a more â€Å"Modern† contemporary view of American families. In both shows I watched: â€Å"Do Not Push† and â€Å"Marco Polo†. Modern Family deals with the traditional family as portrayed by the Dunphys with a mom, dad and three children; a homosexual family with one adopted daughter, the Printhett-Tuckers and a mixed marriage family with one child, the Pritchetts, an older white male remarried a much younger Colombian trophy wife who had a son from her first marriage. In the Modern Family name, the word â€Å"modern† suggests a stray from the normative, something new, and something innovative. Some believe the word†¦show more content†¦Both husbands, Jay and Phil, work outside the home, are the sole contributors of support and maintain their dominant role as the family provider. These behaviors reflect the traditional dominant beliefs that our culture shares about the traditional old-fashioned role of the mother and the father. The third family, a homosexual couple and an adopted daughter have don’t have a traditional history and the writers flip flop the gender roles of the 2 male partners from mom to dad and back again. At first glance, the three families convey illusions of modernity. Meet the traditional Dunphy family consists of Phil-the husband and the father whose wacky character is the breadwinner and works as a real estate agent. Claire, Phil’s wife, is a stay-at-home mother to take care their three children Haley, Alex, and Luke. At the surface, you might even think Claire’s character rejects the dominant ideology of the mother figure. An example of â€Å"Do Not Push† of Season 6-Episode 2, Claire tries to convince her daughter, Alex, to stay close to home when Alex is touring the campus and flirting with her male counterpart. She is in control, exerts power over her children and husband, and is not afraid to voice her opinion. Just like her stepmother, Gloria, Claire doesn’t have a professional career outside of the home. She is defined by her position in the home, both literally and figuratively. In the episode, â€Å"Marco Polo†, dangerous mold was found in the Dunphy Family home and

King Oedipus is a play in which the protagonist, attempts to find the cause of a sickness affecting the city of Thebes Essay Example For Students

King Oedipus is a play in which the protagonist, attempts to find the cause of a sickness affecting the city of Thebes Essay King Oedipus is a play in which the protagonist, attempts to find the cause of a sickness affecting the city of Thebes. The process through which Oedipus uncovers the details of the disease directly parallels the process used by the television show House M. D, in which Dr. House unravels complex mysteries surrounding a patients sickness. Dr. Houses method of uncovering information is extremely unorthodoxhe threatens and manipulates anyone who can help him, often becoming obsessed with solving the medical puzzle. Oedipus follows in the same direction, becoming hell bent on finding the origin of the sickness, assaulting those who withhold information from him and dismissing anyone who opposes him. The mental and physical likeness of the two characters was instrumental in the decision of depicting Oedipus as Dr. House. Scripting was essential in making the theme of the rendition obvious to the audience, as it established the medical tone, aided each actors portrayal of his or her character and helped determine the look of the play. The scripting of the play was used to mimic the tone of House M. D. The initial script served as a rough outline for the entire production and thus established the overall tone of the play. The first step was to locate any lines dealing with the issue of sickness and emphasise the scenes in which the cause of the sickness is discussed. As a result, the opening lines pertained to the sickness and helped establish the medical theme: What is the meaning of these prayers for the healing of pain? Sophocles 25. It was also necessary to sustain the consistency of the medical references and eliminate irrelevant dialogue. To achieve this characters had to written out of the script. The first example of this is the Priest, who was replaced by Creon to create a scene of fast paced dialogue between Oedipus and Creon, again mimicking House M. Ds technique of discussing an illness. By selectively choosing lines, Oedipus egotistical nature became more apparent, thus making it more obvious to the audience that Oedipus was meant to be Dr. House. This process placed emphasis on lines spoken by Oedipus, as his self-proclaimed talent was an identifying mark of hubrisa tragic flaw that both Dr. House and Oedipus constantly display: You have prayed; and your prayers shall be answered if you will obey me Sophocles 31; I have saved this land from ruin. I am content. Sophocles 37; No god will speak for me. Sophocles 68. Dr. House, much like Oedipus, only displays true hubris during social conflict, when his real thoughts become apparent. uphold Oedipus arrogant attitude and maintain conflict, it was again necessary to drastically shorten the lines of miscellaneous characters, as they had little or no conflict with Oedipus. For Jocasta Dr. Cuddy in House M. D, Oedipus wife, it was essential to eliminate much of the dialogue between her and Oedipus that was non-confrontational; the resulting scene between the two characters is much more edgy and engaging as Oedipus and Jocasta exchange remarks in a manner similar to those between Dr. House and Dr. Cuddy: JOCASTA: For the love of God, believe it, Oedipus! / OEDIPUSangered: And why should I repent? Sophocles 43. Jocastas limited role had another purpose: due to a lack of actors, Jocasta had to be played by an outside helper, thus it was easier for her to be written as an off-stage character. The conflict between the two of them helped to give Jocasta some dominance and masked the fact that she was physically missing. Lastly, the initial scripting included brackets to indicate how a certain line should be delivered, often to emphasise a certain aspect of House M. D. For example, Oedipus is indicated to say certain lines in a bitter voice, as would Dr. House: OEDIPUSbitter: And while you suffer, none suffers more than I! Sophocles 27. The initial scripting gave the group a rough outline of what was to be said, but even more important was the way the lines were to be delivered. Literature Essay PaperThe characters clothing was the most blunt and direct form of recognition for the audience, thus it had to be carefully planned. To represent Dr. House, Manish wore classic jeans with a dress shirt and a blazer. To make it even more obvious, he used a caneDr. Houses signature propand a bottle of pills. To create the setting of a hospital, many of the characters were dressed like doctors. Saad, depicting Dr. Wilson, wore a lab coat and carried a stethoscope. Brendan and Shivon, meant to be Dr. Houses team, both wore lab coats and stuck together, speaking in turns to establish that they were a team. To further show that it was a hospital, a small waiting room was added at the end of the stage, with several extras reading magazines while waiting for a doctor. At the other end of the stage was Dr. Houses desk, where Manish used the blackboard to write out the symptoms of an illness, exactly as it seen on House M. D. The look of the play was detrimental to the tone of the play: the lab coats made the discussion of the illness seem much more serious and the congregation of doctors made the quest of searching for a cure plausible. Before any of the visuals were used, a distinguished audio clip was usedthe theme song of House M. D. The clip was again an effort to mirror House M. D, but was also used to build tension in the audience. Another important factor of the play was the stage direction. The characters went back and forth across the stage, constantly utilizing different parts of the stage to give the play a moving feel, as House M. D often refuses to stay in one location for more than a few minutes. The look of the play was the easiest way for the audience to realise what the theme of the play was and was executed carefully to give as many visual clues as possible. Scripting was a dynamic process that was constantly altered to keep up with any changes made to the play. Although it was most first used to establish tone, secondly used to accentuate character and used minimally for the look of the play, the significance of each of these elements occurs in the reverse order. That is to say, the look of the play was the most important, as it immediately clarified the theme. Once the blatant visual techniques made the audience obvious to the theme, the audience had a chance to understand the portrayals of the characters and finally was able to follow the subtle scripting parallels. It is impossible to separate each element into when it was considered, since they are all interdependent: throughout the development of the script, the portrayal of the characters is heavily pondered as is the overall look of the play. Similarly, the final portrayal of each character is only perfected through scripting changes and visual decisions. The theme of the rendition was excellently clarified throughout the play because each of the aspects was skilfully interconnected through use of flexible scripting.

Jeffrey Santos Essays (1232 words) - Literature, Comics, Raw

Jeffrey Santos Professor Shrivastava Experiencing Literature 10/15/17 The Complete Maus Essay Prompt In English class we read a book called "The Complete Maus" by Art Spiegelman. I have been given an assignment that is based off of Spiegelman's use of the famous comic strip. He uses the comic in many different ways but with one main way being, to help the reader fully engage into his thoughts. The Washington Post stated that what Spielgelman did was "impossible to achieve in any medium but comics." Comic strips help the reader dice into the small but important details of the story by giving them interesting drawings that spark their attention. Comics also come with words to give the reader more of an easy understanding of what he or she is reading. This being said, my goal of this paper is to prove the Washington Post in a positive way and to help their statement be correct. To help explain my stand on this, in my first paragraph I will talk about Spielgelman's representation and reliability of his story. Since he relies on his father's thoughts, some may think that the reliability of the drawings may not be valid enough to fully believe. In the second paragraph I will discuss the multiple time frames and how he shifts from one time frame to another but also has multiple present things within one time frame. And in my final paragraph I will discuss the shifts of point of view and how he runs two parallel points of views and still achieves his goal in the story. Representation and reliability is something all if not most people worried about with Spiegelman's comic strip. The main difference in Spiegelman's representation of memory vs other authors is his use of drawings and intriguing images. Even though he relies on his father's thoughts and memories, he also uses real images to help us understand and solidify his father's memories to be true. On page (75) in Spielgelman's book he draws his father's family sitting around a dinner table discussing the hardships of the time that they were living in, and shortly after that there is an image of his son dumping his food onto the table. Clearly his father and his family are very self-giving and protective of everyone still breathing. Although Artie and his father had a rough relationship in the beginning, the comic helps us understand that by the second comic story, Art and his father become close again and begin to understand each other like they used to. With the two of them bonding through hi s father's memory filled talk, it helps us believe that Artie actually helped us readers understand his father's memories and a more diverse and interesting way. He represents his father to his best ability and helps us readers understand fully. He uses his representation within the comic extremely well and it would be hard to tackle all of these things in a written novel. When writing a comic strip you must pay attention to your use in change of time frames and Spiegelman does that and then some. The reader moves through several different historical positions throughout the whole story. They also move through narrative events such as pre Holocaust, the Holocaust, and the post Holocaust, but also, within one time frame there can be multiple times present and co-resent. Maus intertwines the past and the present extremely well to the point where they are simply parallel to each other. He combines the different subject histories of each protagonist, and the different Nazi views located in Rego Park, New York. Artie manages to add many small narratives within the bigger pictures throughout the story. For example, Arties struggles to understand his family's origins and himself as well. Although Artie was talking about the Holocaust through the whole story, he uses small examples to show his struggles in the story as well. Artie asks Vladek for Antje's diaries and Vladek then tells him that the diaries are gone. The interesting part of this story is that Artie then remembers that he burned them himself and this memory puts him into a deep depression. The way Artie showed us his depression through the comics really showed how hurt he

The original grid is today surrounded by Balcarce, 25 de Mayo, Viamonte, Libertad, Salta, and Estados Unidos streets. Growth of the city first followed the high elevations, along which ox- and horse-drawn two-wheeled carretas carried freight and which the modern main avenues and the rail lines also follow. The most recent developments in the city are the industrial sectors that extend from the old center southward, such as Dock Sud, La Boca, Barracas, Pinero, and Lanà ºs. The Paran River plays an important role in the life of Buenos Aires. Oranges, grapefruit, cherries, plums, and vegetables are raised in its delta area. Vacation housing is widespread, and on weekends thousands of people fill the area to engage in recreational activities. The Paran not only provides recreation, but also links the hinterlands with Buenos Aires and supplies water to the population. ...

Did Lincoln really want to free the slaves Research Paper

Did Lincoln really want to free the slaves - Research Paper Example "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave, I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves, I would do it." (Lincoln 1862) President Lincoln wrote these words in August 22, 1862 to journalist Horace Greeley, an abolitionist who wrote for the New York Tribune. This was one month before the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It is clear from this dialogue that Lincoln’s main concern at that time was to preserve the Union at all costs and not a sweeping condemnation of slavery. Even though The Emancipation Proclamation was a historic event and precipitated the end of slavery, the Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery. This was because Lincoln did not have a deep conviction for or against slavery. Lincoln's objective was to preserve the Union and not to free the slaves. The Emancipation Proclamation was a historic event and precipitated the end of slavery. It was the first time that blacks could serve as militia. Blacks were allowed to enlist in the Union Army and Navy and consequently became agents of their own liberation. Lincoln needed extra troops on the ground in order to defeat the Confederacy and preserve the Union. Over 200,000 black troops were added to the Union Army. (US National Archives & Records Administration n.d.) 3 It is clear from his actions that Lincoln’s primary concern for issuing the proclamation was to build up the Union army in order to defeat the Confederacy. Since the Union prevailed in the war, Lincoln succeeded in his goal for a Union victory. Another example that shows that The Emancipation Proclamation was a historic event and precipitated the end of slavery was the subsequent passing of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution. The Emancipation Proclamation was a precursor to the thirteenth amendment which made slavery illegal in every state, not just those affected by the Em ancipation Proclamation. Congress ratified the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution on December 6, 1865. (13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: Abolition of Slavery n.d.) Without the Emancipation Proclamation mandating freedom for some blacks, there would not have been the impetus for Congress to pass sweeping legislation mandating freedom to all blacks in the form of the Thirteenth Amendment. Even though The Emancipation Proclamation was a historic event and precipitated the end of slavery, The Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery. This is because Lincoln did not have a deep conviction for or against slavery. The following is an elaboration upon the correspondence quoted in the beginning of this essay. 4 I would save the Union. I would save it the shortest way under the Constitution. The sooner the national authority can be restored; the nearer the Union will be "the Union as it was." If there be those who would not save the Union, unless they could at the same time save slavery, I do not agree with them. If there be those who would not save the Union unless they could at the same time destroy slavery, I do not agree with them. My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new

None - Essay Example Sales job is task oriented and this job needs a strong evaluation with the passage of time. The sales manager needs to conduct evaluation of all the sales employees individually1. It is very important for the sales manager to supervise all the plans him/her self because sales executives require continuous training and development in their job. The responsibilities of a sales manager increase as he reaches the position of manager. Sales executive is an easier job than the sales manager. The main reason why the sales executive is an easier job is that in such a position the person is responsible only for his/her tasks and goals, but when the executive becomes a manager then he/she is responsible for the overall team. There are different problems that the sales manager has to face. The first problem that is faced at by the sales manager is the missing of objectives or to not clearly identify the objectives to be achieved. This problem is commonly faced by many sales mangers at the initial time of their career as a manager. The company is highly dependent on its sales objectives because the revenue of the company is associated with its sales objectives. Another problem that is very annoying for the sales manager is when the company is not giving the attractive offers to the clients or customers. In such a case the sales manager is required to make effective sales strategy to overcome this issue. Sales mangers consider this problem as one of the most difficult problems. One more issue that is difficult for the mangers at its initial level is the lack of customer identification and the lack of research for finding right prospects for the products or services. This is the fault of marketing professionals of the company for not clearly defining the target market to the sales professionals. This issue is being faced by the mangers that have the responsibility to manage the team of sales personnel. Sales executives or

What Do You Mean By Hash Information Technology Essay

What Do You Mean By Hash Information Technology Essay A hash also called a digest, and informally a checksum is a kind of signature for a stream of data that represents the contents.  The closest real-life analog we can think is a tamper-evident seal on a software package: if you open the box (change the file), its detected. A  cryptographic hash function  is a  deterministic procedure  that takes an arbitrary block of  data  and returns a fixed-size  bit string, the (cryptographic)  hash value, such that an accidental or intentional change to the data will change the hash value. The data to be encoded is often called the message, and the hash values are sometimes called the  message digest  or simply digest. The ideal cryptographic hash function has four main or significant properties: It is easy to compute the hash value for any given message, It is  infeasible  to find a message that has a given hash, It is infeasible to modify a message without changing its hash, It is infeasible to find two different messages with the same hash. Cryptographic hash functions have many  information security  applications, notably in  digital signatures,  message authentication codes  (MACs), and other forms of  authentication. They can also be used as ordinary  hash functions, to index data in  hash tables, for  fingerprinting, to detect duplicate data or uniquely identify files, and as  checksums  to detect accidental data corruption. Indeed, in information security contexts, cryptographic hash values are sometimes called (digital) fingerprints,  checksums, or just  hash values, even though all these terms stand for functions with rather different properties and purposes. Q2. What are the principal elements of a public-key cryptosystem? Ans2. Public-Key Cryptosystems: Secrecy and Authentication, illustrates the essential elements of a public-key encryption scheme. Public key cryptography is an asymmetric scheme that uses a  pair  of keys for encryption: a  public key,  which encrypts data, and a corresponding  private,  or  secret key  for decryption. You publish your public key to the world while keeping your private key secret. Anyone with a copy of your public key can then encrypt information that only you can read. Even people you have never met. Plaintext: This is the original message or data fed into the algorithm as input. Encryption Algorithm: It performs various substitutions and transformation on plaintext. Secret Key: It is used for encryption. Ciphertext: This is the scrambled message produced as output. Decryption Algorithm: This is the encryption algorithm run in reverse. Q3. What types of information might be derived from a traffic analysis attack? Ans3. In a connection-oriented application, the frequency and duration could be determined. In either a connection-oriented or connectionless environment, the number and length of messages between parties could be determined. Traffic analysis attacks aim to derive critical information by analyzing traffic over a network. The two classes of traffic analysis attacks: link-load analysis attacks and flow-connectivity analysis attacks.   Countermeasures for such attacks are usually realized by properly padding the payload traffic so that the statistics of the overall traffic become significantly different from that of the payload traffic. Two basic countermeasure strategies are (a) to pad the traffic with constant inter-arrival times of packets (CIT) or (b) to pad the traffic with variable inter-arrival times (VIT).   Q4. What are three broad categories of applications of public-key cryptosystems? What requirements must a public key cryptosystems fulfill to be a secure algorithm? Ans4. Public-key systems are characterized by the use of a cryptographic type of algorithm with two keys. Depending on the application, the sender uses either the senders private key or the receivers public key, or both, to perform some type of cryptographic function. In broad terms, we can classify the use of public-key cryptosystems into the three categories: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Encryption/decryption: The sender encrypts a message with the recipients public key. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Digital signature: The sender signs a message with its private key, either to the whole message or to a small block of data that is a function of the message. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¢ Key exchange: Two sides cooperate to exchange a session key. Several different approaches are possible, involving the private key(s) of one or both parties. Some algorithms are suitable for all three applications, whereas others can be used only for one or two of these applications. Public key schemes are no more or less secure than private key schemes in both cases the size of the key determines the security. But with public key schemes at least there is usually a firmer theoretical basis for determining the security since its based on well-known and well studied number theory problems. In order to solve the key management problem, the concept of public-key cryptography was introduced. Public-key cryptosystems have two primary uses, encryption and digital signatures. In their system, each person gets a pair of keys, one called the public key and the other called the private key. The public key is published, while the private key is kept secret. The need for the sender and receiver to share secret information is eliminated; all communications involve only public keys, and no private key is ever transmitted or shared. In this system, it is no longer necessary to trust the security of some means of communications. The only requirement is that public keys be associated with their users in a trusted (authenticated) manner (for instance, in a trusted directory). Anyone can send a confidential message by just using public information, but the message can only be decrypted with a private key, which is in the sole possession of the intended recipient. Furthermore, public-key cryptography can be used not only for privacy (encryption), but also for authentication (digital signatures) and other various techniques. Q5. What is digital signature standard? Ans5. This Standard specifies a suite of algorithms that can be used to generate a digital signature. Digital signatures are used to detect unauthorized modifications to data and to authenticate the identity of the signatory. In addition, the recipient of signed data can use a digital signature as evidence in demonstrating to a third party that the signature was, in fact, generated by the claimed signatory. This is known as non-repudiation, since the signatory cannot easily repudiate the signature at a later time. This Standard specifies algorithms for applications requiring a digital signature, rather than a written signature. A digital signature is represented in a computer as a string of bits. A digital signature is computed using a set of rules and a set of parameters that allow the identity of the signatory and the integrity of the data to be verified. Digital signatures may be generated on both stored and transmitted data. Signature generation uses a private key to generate a digital signature; signature verification uses a public key that corresponds to, but is not the same as, the private key. Each signatory possesses a private and public key pair. Public keys may be known by the public; private keys are kept secret. Anyone can verify the signature by employing the signatorys public key. Only the user that possesses the private key can perform signature generation. A hash function is used in the signature generation process to obtain a condensed version of the data to be signed; the condensed version of the data is often called a message digest. The message digest is input to the digital signature algorithm to generate the digital signature. The digital signature is provided to the intended verifier along with the signed data. The verifying entity verifies the signature by using the claimed signatorys public key and the same hash function that was used to generate the signature. Similar procedures may be used to generate and verify signatures for both stored and transmitted data. Q6. Explain authentication function: message encryption, message authentication code and hash function. Ans6. Message encryption: Message encryption is a process that encodes the data of a message so that unauthorized people cannot access it. The process of message encryption converts a message from readable text to scrambled or enciphered text, thus keeping the message content private. Only people who use a private key can read such a message. In fact, message encryption not only safeguards the message but also any attachments included with it. Therefore, message encryption is basically information scrambling, and the technology this process involves is very important for internal security in information technology-driven environments. When message encryption is properly used in such an environment, it helps establish a secure communication channel even in cases where the fundamental system and network infrastructure is not very secure. It is obvious that message encryption is of great significance when a message needs to be transferred through shared systems or network segments in which a number of people may otherwise be able to view it. Message encryption is an invaluable tool in situations where sensitive information needs to be safeguarded so that it cannot be seen or modified by other parties. Message authentication code: One of the reasons that encryption mechanism does not provide a good solution for message authentication is that it is difficult for the receiver to identify the legitimate plaintext. To address this problem, we can apply an error detection code to the message so that only legitimate plaintext can pass the error detection. Such error detection codes are used in the network communication to provide data integrity verification against bit errors introduced by communication channel noise. But it can not provide data integrity protection against malicious attackers. In light of error detection code, we can design a code that uses a secret key. Without the key, modifying the message in a way that it matches the code is impossible. This idea leads to the design of message authentication code (MAC). A MAC  algorithm, sometimes called a  keyed  (cryptographic)  hash function, accepts as input a  secret key  and an arbitrary-length message to be authenticated, and outputs a MAC (sometimes known as a  tag). The MAC value protects both a messages  data integrity  as well as its  authenticity, by allowing verifiers (who also possess the secret key) to detect any changes to the message content. Hash Functions: A hash function H is a transformation that takes a variable-size input m and returns a fixed-size string, which is called the hash value h (that is, h = H(m)). Hash functions with just this property have a variety of general computational uses, but when employed in cryptography the hash functions are usually chosen to have some additional properties. The basic requirements for a cryptographic hash function are: the input can be of any length, the output has a fixed length, H(x) is relatively easy to compute for any given x , H(x) is one-way, H(x) is collision-free. A  hash function  is any  well-defined procedure  or  mathematical function  that converts a large, possibly variable-sized amount of data into a small datum, usually a single  integer  that may serve as an  index  to an  array. The values returned by a hash function are called  hash values, hash codes,  hash sums, or simply  hashes.
